Cleaning & maintenance
Careful cleaning, disinfection and sterilization are essential for the safe and reliable use of instruments. For both the dental and craniofacial products of BioComp, one general cleaning protocol is available.
Careful cleaning, disinfection and sterilization are essential for the safe and reliable use of instruments. For both the dental and craniofacial products of BioComp, one general cleaning protocol is available.
General cleaning guideline
Clean reusable instruments as soon as possible after use to prevent contamination from drying on. For the complete procedure and process conditions, always consult the current BioComp cleaning protocol.
The reprocessing of reusable BioComp instruments follows a fixed workflow: from pre-cleaning immediately after use to machine cleaning and thermal disinfection, inspection, packaging and sterilization. Where possible, automatic cleaning and disinfection is preferred over manual cleaning alone.
1. Pre-cleaning
Start pre-cleaning immediately after use. Remove visible soiling and pay extra attention to hard-to-reach parts and any cavities. This prevents blood, tissue residues and other contamination from drying onto the instruments.
2. Machine cleaning & disinfection
Preferably place the pre-cleaned instruments in a cassette in the designated positions. The cassette and instruments can then be machine cleaned and thermally disinfected in a suitable washer-disinfector.
Machine cleaning and disinfection is preferred over manual cleaning alone wherever possible.
3. Inspection & drying
After cleaning and disinfection, check that the instruments and cassette are clean and completely dry. Also inspect the products for damage, corrosion, wear, deformation and legibility of markings. Instruments that are not completely clean must be cleaned and disinfected again.
4. Packaging & sterilization
Pack the clean and dry cassette and/or loose instruments in a sterilization pouch suitable for steam sterilization.
Sterilize the packaged instruments according to the method and process parameters described in the BioComp cleaning protocol. For BioComp instruments, steam sterilization is applied according to the specified conditions.
Good maintenance starts with regular inspection. Inspect reusable instruments after cleaning and disinfection for cleanliness, damage, corrosion and wear. Also check that markings and engravings remain clearly legible.
The service life of reusable instruments is determined by use, wear and any damage. With proper care and handling, products for multiple use can be reused, as long as they are not damaged or contaminated and any usage limits have not been reached.
Consult the BioComp cleaning protocol for the complete instructions on cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, material compatibility, inspection and replacement.
